El ajuar femenino como relato histórico en Canarias (1500-1550). Propuesta de estudio

Abstract

The study of trousseau should include women. For this reason, this work will take as a starting point the analysis of Notarial Protocols issued in the Canary Islands in the first half of the sixteenth century. In this sense, testaments, letters of dowry and inventories of goods, have in common the narration of domestic objects classifiable in that general Spanish term of “ajuar” (“trousseau”), and through them we can follow the historical trace of the feminine trousseau. Our main objective will be the recovery of the largest number of pieces of trousseau with his name and description as well as rescuing the intra-History of communities, where the great political and religious conflicts only just touched the daily life of the women who made up their societies.
