In the mid 70’s there was a cinematographic boom in the Canary Islands. Tenerife and Gran Canaria were flooded by plenty of amateur filmmakers movies that tried to change the touristic and unreal appearance of the Islands. For the first time cinema became a weapon in their hands to think about doing films related to social reality, politics or even identity issues while a tide of left nationalism was set on the Archipelago. It was a dream to strive for. Additionally, the cinematographic collectives —ACIC, ATCA— debated about film praxis, aesthet-ic utopia or the political commitment, what caused strong internal fights and fractures within them. This paper deals with those theoretical debates trying to unravel the process.
