Abstract

The family structure has been crucial in the social organization through History. This paper aims to analyse its role in the colonization processes in the Atlantic Archipelagos by the Iberian kingdoms (Castile and Portugal) in the fifteenth and the beginning of sixteen centuries, focusing the analysis in three topics: law, economy and society.
