Resumo
The sector of Orchilla, located to the W of El Hierro represents an important example of Holocene volcanism. A remarkable eruption in this zone is the fissure eruption to the NE of the monogenetic volcano of Orchilla. This fissure eruption represents a true natural laboratory to study the processes, dynamics and forms that generate this type of events. Themost outstanding in this eruption are the spatter deposits, the hornitos and lava flows emitted which are typical forms of Hawaiian eruptions, with low viscosity magmas, high temperatures and low gas content. We have found around 25 small eruptive vents associated to 14 hornitos and lava flows with superficial morphology pahoehoe which even arrived to the sea.
