Abstract

This study of theoretical reflection raises the need to delve into the idea of institutional coherence from an integrative perspective of the basic dimensions of school culture, because the evidence is showing that it is a factor of educational quality of the first order. Attempts are being made by our educational administrations, both non-university and university, to advance along this path, but in the wrong direction, for at least two reasons: 1) there is no clear idea of what is meant by coherence institutional, beyond vague common sense slogans; 2) they have neglected the process of constructing this coherence and have opted for a bureaucratic and tax pathway whose lack of real efficacy has already been reliably demonstrated. From these pages we want to advance both in the conceptualization and in the process of building institutional coherence, offering a more adequate proposal to the existing knowledge on educational change and the improvement of the quality of teaching
