Abstract
In this project the morphologic characterization of 59 traditional varieties of tomatoes from the Canary Islands has been carried out for the first time in this place and for two experimental years. These varieties have been evaluated in a morphological way through the utilization of international descriptors for the tomato IPGRI. The exhaustive study of morphologic characterization has allowed the production of varietal cards of the traditional tomato of Canaries. As result of this work, CULTESA has edited the book traditional varieties of tomatoes from Canary Islands. The results obtained in this analysis allow us to be optimistic at the moment of establishing the growing of the traditional varieties of the tomato from the Canary Islands as an alternative for the farmers. This project tries to show results which will help to promote and value the vegetable consumption and particularly of the traditional tomato from the Canary Islands as a symbol of the agrobiologic diversity and vegetal genetic heritage of this place.
