Resum

This article analyses the existence of art works by Latin American artists curated in public art collections in the Canary Islands. Latin American collections first made their appearance at cultural institutions in the late 1980s with the creation of two important art centres: the CAAM and the TEA, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, respectively. Through both art institutions, we examine the development of the institutional art collecting in the Canaries over the past thirty years, bearing in mind that Spain has become a powerful magnet for artists from Latin America in recent years
