The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between parents´ emotional skills, the communication style they used with their children and their parenting style, with the dimensions of family climate. Participants were 468 parents with at least one school-aged child. The following measures were completed by parents: Trait Meta Mood Scale (TMMS-24), Rules and Norms Scale (ENEP), The Scale of Affection (EAP) and the Family Environmental Scale. Results showed that the emotional intelligence perceived by parents, through an affectionate communication and an inductive parenting style, has an indirect effect over family climate. The sociodemographic variable that showed a predictive value over family climate was the parents´ level of education, particularly on the dimension of personal growth of family members.
