Resumo

In this article the complexity of the characteristic surface plasmon band of metallic nanoparticles (NPs) aqueous solutions is studied. To this end the theoretical basis of this phenomenon is resumed and a computer-assisted simulation on the influence of some relevant basic factors implied is shown. In addition, a well-known citrateprotected silver NPs synthesis based in the Ag+ ion reduction with borohydride is reproduced. The AgNPs obtained are finally characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometry and by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results obtained show the complexity implied behind this quantum phenomenon, the great number of factors which intervene in its appearance and how STM and AFM microscopies are suitable techniques to obtain relevant information on nanoparticles characterization.
