Abstract

Purpose: We want to evaluate the usefulness of the APFN technique (aspiration puncture with a fine needle) in the diagnosis of the tumor of the eyelids and the orbit. Material and Method: We used the APFN in three patients, one with an eyelid tumor and two with tumors of which two of them ocurred in the inner wall of the orbit (patient No. 2) and the other on the border of the inner wall (patient No. 3). In order to conduct this technique we used a pistol of the type «Cameco» as support and for the aspiration we used an injection of 20 cc and an insulin needle. A system of quick colouring (Diff-Quick) was used of the obtained samples. Results: In patient No. 1 the presence of a lynfoma was confirmed and in patients Nos. 2 and 3 the absorbed material is of cystical content, discarding the malignity of the process. Conclusions: The described technique is quick, safe, effective and of low cost for the diagnosis of eyelid and orbit tumor being much less aggressive for the patient and also avoiding many unnecessary studies as a diagnosis can readily be obtained.
