Abstract

We present the initial results of the project funded by the Spanish Astronomical Society ¿y si Kepler hubiera sido del Atleti? It consists of a workshop, aimed at students of the last courses of Primary Education and Secondary Education, in which it is explained how the observations of the sun and the planets in the sky are translated into the heliocentric model. The workshop reproduces the strategy devised by Kepler, but using as observations, the positions of Mars and the Sun at important moments in the history of the football club ‘Atlético de Madrid’. The choice of this unusual topic responds to the premise of engaging and promoting the curiosity of the students participating in this activity. In short, we review one of the great moments in the history of science, stressing out the importance of observation and data analysis (mathematics, geometry, calculation, ...) in the scientific method.
