Abstract

This paper attempts to approach a historical work of 18th century from the classical perspective. This is a manuscript, fortunatelyedited, that describes thevicissitudes of theJesusCompany in the Canary Islands, written by the jesuit born in Granada, Matías Sánchez. This work contains many Latin quotations and various references to characters from Classical Antiquity. But also in his prologue appear the criteria followed by this jesuit in the composition of his work, where he is linked to Plutarch and especially to Josephus.
