Abstract

The relative pronoun is the particle that promotes one of the first types of subordination in the Indo-European languages: the relative clause. The relative clause complements a nominal element in which it depends and is always introduced by means of a relative pronoun, which do not exist by themselves in the Indo-European languages, but are, rather, «uses» that are made of demonstrative and interrogative-indefinite pronouns.
