Zusammenfassung

This paper proceeds to the characterization and classification of carved coastal cliffs found in sedimentary formations in Tenerife. Depending on their structure and morphology, have been grouped into two categories: (1) simple detrital cliffs, those composed of a single type of deposit accumulations, such as alluvial, colluvial or quaternary eolianites or beaches, and (2) mixed detrital cliffs, those made by the superposition of two or more of such accumulations between which volcanic material can be sandwiched. The special edaphic and topographic conditions of many of these cliffs allow the development of a substantial vegetation cover. They then become, in a specific habitat of considerable interest. The scarcity of flat land and soils suitable for agriculture in the vicinity of the coast and the advance of urbanization have led occupation. The clearing it requires destabilize these cliffs, where landslides occur localized but common.
