Abstract

There are public collections of art that arise by chance. The processes of the conformation of the collection, developed throughout the history of a public entity, are generally nourished by acquisitions, donations and deposits; which often results in the formation of contingents of pieces belonging to different historical periods, made with different techniques and supports. As a result of an R + D + I research project on 73 documentation and cataloging art collections of the Hon. Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, carried out by our research team, Theory and History of Contemporary Arts and Patrimonial Management, for the University of La Laguna, emerges this communication which has as its fundamental aim to illustrate the complexity of these procedures, both in methodology and content, using the paradigmatic case of the management and documentation of the different collections and goods carried out by the Hon. Cabildo Insular de Tenerife.
