Abstract

Introduction: Orthopedic tests have traditionally been used for clinical examination. The present study aimed to evaluate the potential use of these tests as an effective diagnostic tool in supraspinatus muscle tendinopathies. Objectives: To evaluate the degree of pain produced by the three tests under study: the non-specific test (NT), the differential test (DT) and Jobe?s test (JT). Material and method: Pain levels, on a 4-point scale, were recorded by a therapist evaluating 33 selected patients with a medical diagnosis of supraspinatus muscle tendinosis confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. Results: The JT was considered the most painful test by 27 patients, the DT by 15 patients and the NT by 9 patients. The intraobserver Kappa index for each test was as follows: NT k = 0.60; DT k = 0.844; JT k = 0.846. Conclusions: The JT was the most painful test during evaluation and showed the lowest intraobserver variability.
