Abstract

Notwithstanding the remarkable contributions by Geography to the field of sexual minorities, therestill exists a shrouding scientific marginality. Gay studies in Spain are also scarce and mainlyframed by gender studies and centered on the concept of gay visibility, space production and touristleisure. The term cruising is used to name gay men’s anonymous sexual encounters in open/closed,public spaces near conurbations and presided over by a general lack of personal informationexchange. This paper aims to examine cruising in three public, open spaces in Tenerife Island, thusintending to reduce the evident scientific marginality surrounding this practice by shedding somelight on where they are, who visit them and why they drop by there.
