Espacios femeninos en los interiores domésticos en Canarias

There is usually unanimity in considering the domestic to be the strictly female domain, thus distinguishing it from the male-dominated public space. Likewise, the home will be considered, within that same territory, not only the place that provides shelter and security, but also the place where intimacy, individuality and sociability are built, especially for women. The aim of this work is to analyse those spaces belonging to the domestic interiors, traditionally considered as feminine, including the dais. The dais, also known as «ladies'dais», are scenarios closely linked to the wealthy dwellings of the Hispanic world in the medieval and modern periods, whose origin must be sought in the heritage left by the Islamic culture on peninsular soil. Consequently, and through the notarial protocols, which we will take as our main source, we will study «the ladies'dais» as the intersectional knot in which the relationships between women, from the affluent class, meet.
