Resumen

Carlos A. Schwartz (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1942-), an architect by profession, began his photographic work in the 1970s and being still active. His work is varied and complex, both formally and discursively. It ranges from the portraiture to landscape genres, and more formal and abstract experimental photography. Although we can classify his work in the documentary style, his values are treated in a particular way, so enabling to understand part of the political, cultural and social history of the last decades in Canary Islands. The variety and complexity of the discourse and form, as well as his vision of the Canarian territory and its people, are one of the best photographic catalogs on the Canaries of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.
