Abstract
A"en on-Deficit / Hyperac vity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most frequent health problems in childhood. The main symptoms are impulsivity, a"en on disorder and hyperac vity. Several treatments strategies may be appropiated. The clinical expression of the symptoms is social, personal and family disrup on, which has important consequences in the evolu on of the pa ents. Mul - disciplinary treatment is required. Research provides strong support for the efficacy and effec veness of psychological interven on (behavioural and cogni ve therapy) and pharmacological treatment. Pharmacotherapy is prominent under different clinical prac- ce guidelines. Then, understanding child psychopharmacology of ADHD o%en is an important part of the prac ce of a paediatrician. Methylphenidate and atomoxe na have proved effec ve with an adequate safety profile. This current ar cle develops the bases for new drug treatments and an assessment of the advantages and disadvantages that are related to its use.
