Resumen

The archaeological activity carried out in the Canary Islands has allowed to recover a set of material evidences related to the Phoenician-Punic and Roman cultures that make it possible to contrast the information provided by different classical Greco-Latin authors who, despite the extreme situation of the islands, refer to them as a reality the Mediterranean communities of Late Antiquity would have been aware of. In the context of some of the most recent archaeological discoveries, the rereading of these texts allows an accurate chronological approximation to the geographical and historical reality represented by the Canary Islands in the I millennium BC, to the interest that their resources aroused and the role they played in the understanding of the Orbis Terrarum.
