Abstract

Participative techniques within methodologies of Participative Rural Appraisal (PRA),contributes important elements in order to involve population in planning of agriculturalactivities in general and grazing in particular. A key question is how to integrate localknowledge and local categories of classification and zoning in grazing planning. In this work weattempt an approach to participative techniques of diagnostic and its application in planning anduse of pastures. After a description of the methodological basis of participation, we approach themore common procedures and protocols in PRA, finishing with a brief comment about the mostinteresting results. Participative zoning of resources, the inventory of the key plant species andthe participative classification of livestock farms are the most relevant results; in addition themap of relations, among all social agents that have to do with livestock use of the territory, provides significant results.
