Abstract

Our contribution to Rodrigo de Balbin’s Tribute is a reflection on the state of the existing knowledge of the prehistory of the Canary Islands when he started his work about them. We look to the proposals we did about the discovery and colonization of some Atlantic islands in the geopolitical context of the Atlantic and western Mediterranean protohistory; We note the significant cultural elements that help explain this process, and how our proposals have served to highlight new inflexions to the discourse about Canary protohistory.
