Resumen

A 3D modelling workshop has been developed at the University of La Laguna in orderto improve the spatial skills of engineering students. The first exercise of this workshopused tangible painted aluminium models. Students should manipulate them with theirown hands for creating normalized representation drawings in paper. In order toimplement the workshop in a Virtual Learning Environment, the problem arises whenthese pieces (aluminium models) are only available to students in the classroom. Theaim of the Virtual Learning Environment is allowing students to make the workshopboth at the University and at home. Because of this, we intend to replace aluminiummodels by digital files that are still necessary for their handling or manipulation.Having this aim in mind, we propose two different solutions: the use of augmentedreality files and 3D virtual models manipulated through digital tablets.
