Abstract

Several papers have focused in different aspects of the 2014 November eruption at Fogo Pic (Hernandez et al., 2015; Silva et al., 2015; Perez and Walter, 2016; among others). New petrological and geochemical features of the lava flows of the Novem- ber 23, 2014 to February 8, 2015 eruption at Pico do Fogo Island (Cape Verde Archipelago) are provided in this work. The lavas exhibit porphyritic texture with abundant interstitial glass. The geochemical data on major and trace elements allow us to assert that the lava flows have a tephryte-basanite composition and to suggest that a low melting degree (less than 2% of partial melting) of a not depleted mantle is the dominant source of such lava flows.
