Abstract

The temperature distribution as a function of depth in the unsaturated area of the central aquifer on the island of Tenerife has been analyzed for more than 7 years, in an attempt to establish a relationship between water recharge and the water table level. In this sense, a series of thermal sensors have been installed at various depths in 3 existing boreholes. The necessary meteorological data (rainfall, air temperature, etc.) have been obtained from the AEMET stations in the area under study and from the WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting model) climate model. The final objective of this project is to assess the capability to predict the future behavior of the aquifer based on the results of local climate models calculated using WRF.
