Abstract

Introduction: The diagnosis of a disease such as cancer in a child, supposes for the parents an experience of shock and impact. Objectives: to reflect, by means of a bibliographic search, on the experiences and feelings that parents with children suffering from cancer have, as well as how to improve the humanization of care and the usefulness of qualitative research. Method: after conducting a simple bibliographic search, a personal reflective essay is prepared based on the results of the articles consulted. Development: The parents present negative feelings such as daze, anxiety, anguish, fear or uncertainty since in general the word cancer is inevitably associated with loss. But in addition, parents also express feelings of hope throughout the disease process. The professional-parent-child relationship must be closer and more humanized, as well as not forgetting the wealth of qualitative methodology research Conclusions: Parents observe that there are improvements in terms of treatment, sensitivity and communication that are given to them by the professionals. With the present document, importance is given to a humanized attention and care for both the child and the parents and that more qualitative research works are proposed that address this topic.
