Zusammenfassung

This work focuses on the tourism economy with special reference to the Canary Islands. The aim of this work is the analysis of the number of tourist arrivals to the Canary Islands, focusing on the detection of possible structural changes for the period between January 1988 and December 2014. This period covers broad critical phases such as consolidation the single market and the sharp depreciation of the peseta in 1992 and 1993, successive international crises in 1997 in Southeast Asia, the introduction of the euro in 2002, or the attacks of11th September or the 11th March 2004. It is important to know the breakpoints in the series which are relevant in terms of statistical criteria. In particular, it is considered the existence of multiple structural changes proposed by Bai and Perron (2003). In addition, graphics are constructed to determine shift points, through the CUSUMand CUSUMQ tools. The first results point to the presence of breaks in the number of tourist arrivals.
