Resumo

The doctoral thesis’ subject pertains the design of a methodology to build artistic knowledge in projects of graphic design. Along the constitutive discussion of the work, an investigation has been completed based on the collected material drawn from bibliographical sources, the one which permitted on a first instance to measure the knowledge of graphic design, the artistic knowledge and the scientific knowledge, and also the context that each type of knowledge encompasses; by which there is an answer to the hypothesis that the universality, objection, predictability and intelligibility principles of scientific knowledge and that the communicative principles of artistic knowledge could be applied to graphic design. The exploration, additionally focused on the analysis of two relevant graphic design methods, the integration method by Jorge Frascara and the projective method by Universidad del Norte. In accordance to the employed methodology it is catalogued as qualitative with a descriptive-applicative orientation, it has been based upon the ethnographic strategies: standard structured interviews, followed by interview not directed to the focal group and content analysis of human artefact contents. It can be argued that the methodology for building artistic knowledge in graphic design projects, in each one of its steps, encloses processes, as well as abilities and competences that should be recognized to build knowledge. In the design of the methodology, as structured in this work, the following frameworks of synthesis converge: - Cognitive, and affective aspects in the process - Perception of space analysis, symbolic space analysis - Production and interpretation of messages - Ethnographic investigation - The usage of language as an artistic form, the use of aesthetic elements and experimentation - Visualization
