Abstract

Juan de Arfe y Villafañe (1535-1603) was a Spanish silversmith, famous among their craft mates because of his skillfulness and his theoretical treatises. Our research makes a careful study of different facets of his work and life, but de most important point is the research in those rules about art that he wrote in his main treatise: De Varia Commensuracion. Our thesis analyses the artistic theory about the human figure included in the second book of De Varia Commensuracion, studying its influence, impact and transcendence in the art history.
