Abstract

Introduction: Speech Therapy in Spain is a health profession with an official university degree since 1992. Currently there are three associations that support the figure of speech therapists. Method: The following paper provides detailed information about the current situation of the profession in Spain, and a comparison with previous years in order to analyze its evolution in universities and Professional Colleges. Results and Discussion: There is an increase in the offer of the degree in Spanish universities and an increase in the number of professional associations that contrasts with the low representation of speechlanguage athologists in the public, educational and health areas. Other deficits are also found focused on research and certain subjects that are the competence of speech-language pathologists. Conclusions: The figure of the speech-language pathologist has acquired greater role in society in recent years, however, representation in the public sector, as well as its recognition in some areas, is still deficient.
