Introduction: The study of microplastics has gained importance in the field of research in recent years. These are small particles of less than 5 millimeters, which are omnipresent in the air, water, soil, food, and are capable of entering the body and producing negative effects on human health. Objective: To determine the presence of microplastics in the air, both indoors and outdoors, in two municipalities on the island of Tenerife, in Güímar and in La Orotava. Methods: At each location, samples were taken from the interior and exterior of a pharmacy in the area. Sampling was carried out by deposition of microplastics that were later analyzed in a stereoscopic magnifying glass. Results: The presence of numerous fibers that could be separated in different sizes, colors and even nature was verified. In the indoor samples, in the pharmacy in the Güímar area the average size was 1241.37 µm and in Orotava it was 1419.71 µm, with the dark blue color predominating in both. Regarding the external samples, the results were 1,195.58 and 1,802.60 µm, respectively, with the dark blue color predominating in the south of the island and the transparent color in the north. Conclusion: All samples, both indoor and outdoor, had a high number of microplastics, mainly microfibers. A higher total concentration of microfibers was found indoors than outdoors.
