Abstract

ABSTRACT The present doctoral thesis is a study that sociologically vindicates the portrait, providing a novel vision from its own multidisciplinary nature, which encompasses not only Art History, but other branches such as History, Sociology, etc., being in vogue with renewal methodological of the History of modern Art, not being a simple positivist study, but a heterogeneous and multidisciplinary work. From the primary sources that represent 84 politicians (outside of royalty) born in Tenerife or who held political office for the benefit of the Island, the iconographic study of the public image of the nineteenth-century Tenerife politicians has been systematized and it will foreshadow a trend that will continue to this day, all from a different perspective than what has been done so far in the island and peninsula.
