Abstract

Purpose: To show our experience performing lateral holes in the intraocular portion of the valve of Ahmed tube (ABS). Method: Four devices were analyzed: 29 G needle, scissors, diathermic tip and punch. We studied the usefulness and characteristics of the holes made. Results: The punch holes obtained in the tube have a steady structure and a sufficient diameter not to get obstructed, thus improving the results obtained with 29 G scissors and diathermic tip. Conclusions: The creation of an anti-blocking system on the intraocular portion of the tube of the Ahmed valve prevents its blocking, thus ensuring the flow of aqueous humor into the body of the valve. Punch holes get more regular structure and size, and repeatable than those obtained with other devices
