Zusammenfassung

Introduction: Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people 60 years of age or older in the developed world. Although we have experienced significant progress in its knowledge, diagnosis and treatment, social and healthcare AMD problems still needs to be resolved. Objective: Calculate and analyze the risk of progression to advanced AMD, and describe the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients being followed for AMD, in our sample of HUNSC patients. Method: Descriptive, retrospective study, in AMD patients visited between August 2010 and August 2011. To calculate the risk of progression to advanced AMD we used the on-line version of the risk calculator designed by Klein et al. Results: We analyzed 190 eyes of 95 patients (35 men and 60 women). The mean age of the patients was 76±8.69 years. The most common profile of patient with AMD in our hospital, is a woman (63.2%), hypertensive (75.8%), non-diabetic (74.7%), with dyslipemia (63.7%) and not currently smoking (85.3%) without a family history of AMD. The 62.1% present exudative AMD and the median of risk of progressing to advanced AMD at 2 years is 22%, at 5 years is 50.50% and at 10 years is 76%. Conclusion: The calculator has proven practical, it can be applied in 50,53% of patients, and we cosider that it can be a useful tool for optimizing the flow of patients in ophthalmology and to ensure proper mointoring or our patients.
