Purpose: To study the relationship between myodesopsia, photopsia and clinical tomographic posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) at our hospital. Methods: Transversal descriptive and prospective study of the patients who came to the Emergency Department of HUNSC in a two-month period with symptoms of acute PVD after complete ophthalmological examination and Cirrus HD-OCT. Results: From the total of 18 patients with related symptoms, 83% presented PVD in fundus examination and 55.3% by OCT. Clinical and tomographic correlation was found in 46.6% of patients. Conclusions: There is high association between myodesopsia and/or photopsia and PVD findings in fundus examination, although OCT provides limited utility on acute diagnosis. We report a poor correlation in the clinical and OCT findings in PVD acute diagnosis.
