Abstract
ntroduction: a clinical case of subfoveal liquid perfluorocarbon (PFCL) retention after retinal detachment surgery is presented. It developed a macular hole as a complication. Clinical case: A 51-year-old woman with subfoveal retention of PFCL after retinal detachment surgery, underwent a therapeutic retinotomy one month later for its extraction. As a complication, a macular hole was produced, which resolved spontaneously. Discussion: Therapeutic management of subretinal PFCL retention is not standardized. Although surgical removal usually leads to an improvement in visual acuity, the potential for improvement of visual acuity and the macular or extramacular location of PFCLL retention should be considered before treatment.
