Resum

Objective: To describe the Avascular Foveal Zone (AFZ) in healthy eyes using OCT angiography. Material and Methods: A review of the available bibliography on this topic is carried out. Results: The most applied protocol to study the AFZ is the 3 x 3 mm², and, the Avanti (Optovue, Fremont, CA, EEUU) is the most used equipment in studies reviewed. It has found values from 0,21 ± 0,1 mm² to 0,289 ± 0,108 mm² in manually operated measurements, focused on the superficial vascular plexus. Conclusion: We suggest sizing the AFZ by employing the 3 x 3 mm² protocol and taking the measurements from the superficial vascular plexus manually. Whenever trying to compare AFZ dimensions ,it is required to be aware of the segmentation and software differences among the equipments. Therefore, OCT angiography can be useful to measure the AFZ.
