Zusammenfassung

Introduction: To review the clinical characteristics of paracentral acute middle maculopathy as well as the anatomo-functional alterations associated with it, in order to incorporate it into our differential diagnosis in any patient with acute loss of visual acuity. Clinical case: A retrospective description of a clinical case of paracentral acute middle maculopathy in a 79-year-old woman treated for uveitis at a clinic after being referred by an emergency ophthalmologist due to acute loss of visual acuity in her right eye. Discussion: Paracentral acute middle maculopathy is defined as an ischemic vascular perfusion disorder that affects the deep capillary plexus of the retina (1). It manifests as an anatomical alteration in optical coherence tomography characterized by a hyper-reflective macular line located in the inner nuclear layer. This causes an acute loss of visual acuity, being the consequence of an underlying vascular disorder of systemic or local illnes in older patients and associated with vascular risk factors . For this reason, it is important to carry out a systemic study that provides us with information on their risk factors, as well as make a diagnosis of still unknown risk factor (2).
