Abstract

Objective: To present the results we have obtained in our patients undergoing this combined procedure. Methods: A descriptive, retrospective study of the series of cases of patients undergone the combined procedure mentioned. Demographic characteristics; the diagnosis, the values of visual acuity (VA), intraocular pressure (IOP), and both pre- and post-surgical treatment were recorded. Subsequently, we formed a group of patients with similar characteristics featuring the valvular tube in the anterior chamber (CA). In this group, the same data was collected and analyzed. Results: Neovascular glaucoma was the most frequent diagnosis (57.14%), the initial visual acuity showed a mean of 1.68 (LogMar) which was modified very shortly after surgery, moving to an average of 1.39. On the other hand, the mean of the preoperative IOP was 42.14 mmHg, passing to 17 mmHg after the intervention. Only 28.57% of them needed pharmacological treatment later (a single drug). The mean follow-up was 41 months. Only one of the patients presented a choroidal detachment as a postoperative complication. Conclusions: The post-surgical IOP we obtained on average was 17 mmHg, the complications were not frequent, so we consider that the technique is safe and effective. The AV gain after surgery was not important. Thus, we consider that the technique is effective in controlling IOP and decreasing the need for hypotensive treatments.
