Abstract

We are showing the results of a questionnaire answered by students in the four year of compulsory secondary education (12-16 years) on the representation of numbers on the number line. Students' responses indicate that during secondary education there is an increase in knowledge regarding the representations in the line, though, success in the representations is conditioned by the type of numbers, obtaining better results in whole numbers and decimals and showing significant difficulties with fractions. The difficulties encountered indicate that students do not finish high school with a unified idea of the representations in the line in relation with the different numbers
