Abstract

Mental health problems are one of the main non-somatic reasons for consultation in paediatrics and costly due to consumption and utilization of social resources and long-term health, social, educational and legal costs associated. They affect 20% adolescents worldwide. Anxiety disorders are the most common condition, followed by behavior disorders and mood disorders. The manifestation of psychopathology will depend on genetic aspects, environmental factors and hormonal influence. Adolescents´ individual, familial, and social vulnerability, as well as individual and familial coping abilities, are factors related to adolescent mental health in times of crisis. The COVID-19 has impacted on mental health. Adolescents of varying backgrounds experience higher rates of anxiety, depression, and stress due to the pandemic.
