Abstract

The «libreas» are one of the most characteristic festive manifestations of Tenerife. Located in the northern part of the island, two types can be seen, one in the form of a devil and the other of militia. The first ones are located in towns of the northwestern strip: Icod de los Vinos, El Tanque and Buenavista del Norte. The second type is located on the northeast side of the island, especially in the municipality of Tegueste. This contribution offers a comparison between both festive manifestations.
