Abstract

Pollution in cities has made air quality a matter of great importance for people’s health, thus increasing the use of low-cost sensors to measure this aspect. In the current study, a comparison of the valuesobtained by a low-cost sensor in the town of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, with the data of the nearestreference sensor, is carried out to check if we can use its measurements for the analysis of periods of hazein the Canary Islands, which are characterized by the increase of suspended particles. It is observed thatthe low-cost sensor responds sufficiently well to substantial alterations of PM10 and PM2.5, in additionto describing qualitatively the state of atmospheric pollution and African dust intrusion phenomena.
