The objective was to determine forage mass pre and post-grazing in an African Star pasture grazed at four daily herbage allowances. Herbage allowances were 2, 4, 6 or 8 %. Experimental design was a complete block with four replications. Three consecutive grazings were done at each allowance tested, resting period was always 28 days. Data analyses were done for the last two grazings. Total herbage mass, African Star mass and African Star live-mass pregrazing were not different (P > .05) among allowances in any of the two grazings. Total herbage mass and African Star live-mass postgrazing were different (P < .05) among allowances in the third grazing, only. Both variables were the lowest at the 2% allowance. Level of daily herbage allowance determined mainly post-grazing forage mass, and this effect increased as the number of grazings increased.
