Résumé

The Punta Negra shell midden site, integrated within the archaeological complex of La Fuente, is a compacted deposit of seashells, mostly limpets, which is an important testimony of the economic activity of shellfishing and harvesting of prehistoric people on the coast of Buenavista del Norte (Tenerife). Its poor state of conservation was already warned in 1999, when it was inventoried. Since then, its exposure to the elements and a bad use of the enclave have led to further deterioration. It has suffered the displacement of archaeosedimentary levels, the collapse of profiles and a migration of malacological material outside the limits of its original location. All this resulted in a decrease of the archaeological remains preserved, both in depth and extension, affecting its formal reading. This type of anthropogenic deposit sites is particularly sensitive to water erosion and plant growth, which affect their visibility and cause soil bioturbation. That is why since 2018 we have been working on its conservation, on the recovery and dissemination of its archaeological values and on its maintenance.
