Resumen

This chapter analyzes an educational experience that addresses social justice issues through media arts, which is part of an innovative educational project at Universidad de La Laguna (ULL) in Tenerife, Spain. The project’s objective is to promote other teaching-learning methodologies based on the potential of digital and interactive technologies, in particular stop-motion animation, as well as to empower artistic practices committed to cultural diversity. Each animation embodies a critical discourse on issues of social justice, such as gender, disability, race, and ethnicity. They combine the traditional and new techniques of moving images—the tactile sensibility of clay with the visual immediacy of digital images. Created and shared in a collaborative digital network, the animations are then analyzed by peers to appreciate the strength of each message and its adequacy. To conclude, this experience reinforces the idea of connecting art with social discourses and highlights digital technologies as empowering tools in media arts projects.
