Resumen

The present work describes the design, implementation and calibration of a highresolution monochromator which is able to separate spectral components of light in the visibleregion of the electromagnetic spectrum. The developed prototype constitutes a low cost solutionas compared with other similar commercial devices, but offering a noteworthy performancemaking it perfectly valid for research studies as well as educational purposes, the latter beingthe primary application for which it was conceived. The main element of the monochromator isa diffraction grating blazed at 500 nm that is moved by the action of a stepper motor, which iscontrolled by means of a microcontroller, device that simultaneously must digitize the data fromthe optical sensors and provide them to the main personal computer. Finally, an intuitive userinterface, developed in G language, allows us to easily interact with the monochromator, saveand display graphically the spectrum data, making the whole system a complete and useful toolfor optical spectrum analysis by part of experienced researchers but also beginner students inoptical spectroscopy.
