Resum

Geological studies related to space exploration cover many different aspects that can not befaced without considering its interdisciplinary nature. Whereas planetary geology is significantlyprogressing in the academic and scientific contexts in Europe and the USA, the advance in Spain is stillextremely slow. The present contribution is a summary of the debate from the round table entitled“Geology and space exploration” which was held during the “VII Congreso Geológico de España”.Thematically, the main subjects were the following: a) investigation (and interdisciplinary links) in thegeneral framework of the Earth and Space sciences; b) teaching aspects in Faculties and EngineeringSchools; c) public outreach and coordination at different levels (by the activities of science museums, congresses, workshops and thematic seminars), and d) future perspectives of development in Spain.
