Abstract
In this paper, firstly, it is examined the transformation of the ties between parents and children at the end of the Modern Age, with the emergence of the commitment of children’s care by parents and with the elevation of education as a (utilitarian) instrument for individual and national happiness. These issues are analyzed in relation to the European phenomenon of child prodigies, successful in 18 th century Spain. Secondly, considering different cases of children prodigy. The paper studies how the gender mark determined a different definition and features for girls prodigy, how female public exams made visible the cognitive aptitudes and educational claims of women. And finally how with these enlightened young prodigies a path of struggle for educational equality between boys and girls began.
